December 1808. Convulsive times. Spain had risen up in arms against the French enemy. And Manuel Godoy, Carlos IV’s favorite, was to blame for that war. On this day, 210 years ago, a canarian, also surnamed Godoy, ashamed, asked Fernando VII “to use only the surname of Verde”.
